We’re proud to unveil our official Carry the Future Commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion statement. The development of this vital commitment was one of the first key initiatives taken on by our new Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Juana Trotter.

Said Juana, “At Carry the Future, we understand that DEI initiatives are critical to our mission and core values, and our DEI statement shows that we not only value the unique and individual experiences of our Carry the Future leaders, staff, volunteers, and the communities that we serve, but that we are also committed to fostering a culture of equity, inclusivity, and belonging. Top-down support is also critical for driving diversity and inclusion efforts, and I am proud to be a part of a of a leadership team who are strong advocates of DEI.”

“As a women-led organization, it’s crucial for us to represent and include all facets of humanity—not just in who we serve, but in the makeup of our volunteer staff and leadership as well,” said Executive Director Lacy Stroessner.  

Carry the Future is a global organization that believes that everyone can do something. If we really are “all in this together,” what does that look like on a day-to-day basis? Do our donors represent a variety of backgrounds? Are we reaching every community with our marketing? Do we host events that everyone would enjoy? Is our website accessible? Do we have volunteer opportunities for those with cognitive differences? Are we reaching younger generations? There are hundreds of questions we should be asking ourselves to ensure a more welcoming, inclusive environment. 

With Juana leading our DEI efforts, we will continue to ask the hard questions, find answers that foster an equitable and inclusive environment, and seek out continual opportunities for improvement.
